New Delhi: Just four days after Gurjars relaunched their protests by courting arrests across Rajasthan, the community members on Sunday stepped up their agitation by blocking road traffic and resorting to pelting stones at vehicles.
Rail traffic through eastern Rajasthan continued to be affected as Gurjars removed rail tracks in Bharatpur district.
They had blocked roads and rail traffic across Dausa, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts on Saturday as well. Statewide protests are planned on Thursday as part of an agitation that’s being opposed by Meena caste members, who currently dominate the state's ST list.
The Meenas organised a caste panchayat at Khatu-Shyamji in Sikar district on Sunday to oppose the demand.
At least five trains, including the Janata Express and the Awadh Express, were either terminated or diverted following the damage caused to the track, Railways sources said.
A Railway team had reached the scene to repair the track.
In Ajmer, hundreds of women shouted slogans against the district administration alleging they were not allowed to meet family members in jails.
They threatened to court arrest on Thursday along with their children.
A report from Bhilwara said three inmates lodged in a makeshift jail had gone on hunger strike alleging they were ill-treated.
However, officials denied the report.
Official sources said the state government might initiate talks with Gurjar leaders tommorow in Ajmer where some of them including Kirori Singh Bhainsala, who spearheaded the stir in Rajasthan, are lodged.
