New Delhi: As many as 2,112 students and 528 school teachers will be visiting premier institutes like the IITs every year under a programme to provide academic exposure to students from the Northeast.

The report, published in the form of an e-book, said the first visit was initiated in December of last year and students have been asked to prepare an e-book on their experiences. Espousing the cause of women, the report said that women leaders from the corporate and business world have been appointed in the last 200 days as chairpersons of boards of governors of apex technical institutes and the national institutes of technology.

Thus, former CMD of Alfa Laval-Tetra Pak India, Lila Poonawalla, was named chairman of the board of governors of IIT, Ropar. Likewise, CEO of Capgemini India Ltd, Arun Jayanthi, has been appointed as the head of NIT Calicut while founder-director of Apremeya Associates, Vasantha Ramaswamy, has been made the chairperson of the board of governors of NIT, Rourkela.

Focusing attention on the government's skill development initiative, the report talked about the implementation of 'Yagya Kalakriti Ki Takneeki (YUKTI)', which seeks to introduce appropriate design and technologies for innovation and production.
