Hyderabad parents fight against arbitary fee hike
Chiranjeevulu, Director, School education, Telangana government said that the education department is taking these complaints seriously.

Hyderabad: In Hyderabad, Parents from different segments of the society have come together to protest against the ever increasing fees of schools. Parents claim schools have been increasing fees exponentially to an extent where it has become almost unsustainable to many. Parents say schools hike fees every year in the name of better facilities. After repeated complaints to the government, Hyderabad School Parents Association have decided to approach the court and take the protests to the streets if needed.

Parents are demanding immediate intervention of the government to ensure that one-time fee during admission in excess of RS 5000 is stopped, a committee to look into the account details of schools is set up, apart from implementation of other existing rules. There are various government orders that regulate fee and other operations in the school but they lack implementation, due to on-going legal battle in courts by school managements.

Subramanium, a Parent said, "we send a child to school seeing a certain fee structure but the fee increases like 40, 50, 80 percent annually. One school has fees of Rs 7000 last year, this year it is Rs. 15000. there needs to be a cap on it."

Another hassled parent Vikrant said, "my daughter fees that was Rs. 27000 last year is Rs. 44000. When we question school, they say life is costly, you also earn for your children, have to meet expenses."

Ashish, another parent is critical of the school managements. He said, "What is shocking is not a single rule is implemented. We request government to take action."

Chiranjeevulu, Director, School education, Telangana government said that the education department is taking these complaints seriously. He said, "we are sending notices to schools who don’t display fee structure. We have got complaints from parents. We are sending inspection teams. But the matter is in court. So we have to wait till court gives further orders."
