New Delhi: We have been hearing about a touch-enabled smartwatch from Apple for a long time. Following weeks of rumours, a new report has surfaced which suggests that Apple's iWatch may hit store shelves in late 2014.
According to a Mashable report, "In a note to investors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects Apple to release an iWatch, but not necessarily anytime in the very near future."
Kuo, whose other predictions about the Apple launches have proved to be true, says Apple will start production on the device in the middle of next year. He further believes that the device is likely to debut by the the end of 2014.
Speculations are rife that the smartwatch may have a 1.5-inch to 2-inch display and is expected to use biometrics - much like a prototype of a Toshiba smartwatch. if rumours are to believed that the biometric functionality would also allow the watch to be used as a fitness-tracking device.
Earlier, The Times had reported that the watch-like product could be used to make mobile payments and would operate on Apple's iOS platform, which is the foundation of its iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch consumer devices.
Some reports have also suggested that Apple and Intel are jointly working on a Bluetooth-equipped smart wristwatch.
