New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday notified certain amendments to the Delhi Masterplan, allowing commercial activity in regularised areas on 80-feet-wide roads and the Ring Road while maintaining status quo for 'historically commercial places' like Karol Bagh.

The new Masterplan Amendment was signed by Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy on Thursday.

Under the amendments to the masterplan, banquet halls will be allowed in industrial and commercial areas. Banquet halls operating in residential areas would, however, have to shut shop from Friday. However, schools, hospitals and guest houses have been spared from facing the bulldozer.

While notifying the amendments, the government has accepted almost all recommendation of the Tejender Khanna Committee. All the suggestions made by DDA, too, have been accepted.

RWAs formed before June 2006 can decide on the commercial activities in A and B category colonies, the amendments says. The new amendments also provide for nursing homes and pathology labs in residential areas.
