More forces at US Consulate

Security has further been stepped up in and around the US Consulate in Begumpet after protests erupted at the US Consulate in Chennai on Friday.

 Activists of a group hurled stones at the US consulate here protesting against a controversial film, considered blasphemous to Islam.

 According to sources, an additional platoon was deployed on Friday, hours after the US Consulate in Chennai was stoned. Strict vigil was kept on all those heading towards the Consulate.

North zone DCP Ch Srikanth confirmed that an additional platoon was deployed at the outer cordon on Friday. ‘’This arrangement will remain in place till the threat exists,’’ he said.

The police remained on high alert and undertook vehicle checking of persons near the Consulate. Sources said that there were inputs to suggest that some groups would try to get close to the US Consulate.

Meanwhile, the Friday congregational prayers passed off peacefully amid tight security arrangements.
