The weather office on Saturday predicted that the heatwave conditions in Northwest, Central and East India are likely to reduce over the next two days.
In it’s official press release, the Indian Meteorological Department said, “Gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C very likely over Northwest & East India during next 2-3 days and no significant change thereafter.”
Delhi
Delhi experienced a sudden shift in weather on Saturday afternoon as a dust storm swept through the city accompanied by a cloudy sky. The change in the weather brought some relief for the city, which has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions for the last five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted earlier that due to western disturbances, the national capital might experience a change in weather, including cloudy skies, a dust storm or a thunderstorm with very light rain accompanied by gusty winds.
Rajasthan
Most places in Rajasthan would get some relief from heatwave and maximum temperatures are likely to fall by two to three degrees Celsius during the next 48 hours, the local weather office said on Saturday.
Due to the effect of a new western disturbance, partly cloudy sky is expected in some parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions during the next 48 hours, according to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur.
East & Central India
Light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning will be witnessed in West Bengal & Sikkim, some places of Northeast India, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana.
Delhi Recorded Hottest Day On May 28
Delhi recorded its hottest day this season with the maximum temperature reaching 50 degrees Celsius in some parts on Tuesday (May 28), which was nine notches above normal.
The national capital and other parts of northern as well as central India were in the grip of extreme heatwave conditions with the mercury crossing the 50-degree mark in Rajasthan’s Churu and Haryana’s Sirsa.
At least three weather stations in Delhi recorded maximum temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius or more. Mungeshpur and Narela in Delhi clocked 49.9 degrees followed by Najafgarh at 49.8 degrees Celsius, said the MeT.
