THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Setting ground for another set of political controversies and putting many prominent leaders in the UDF camp in a real fix, the police had submitted the call-list of the mobile phone in the name of Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai, from May 12 to Aug 5, 2011, while he was undergoing imprisonment in the Idamalayar graft case.The police submitted the list of calls with names from the BSNL mobile number 94471-55555 in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Thursday. The list of 754 incoming calls include K B Ganesh Kumar, Minister for Forest and Pillai’s son, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Kodikkunnil Suresh MP, a former woman national athlete, then Punalur DySP, Ambalappuzha CI and a woman Congress leader based in Ernakulam.The prominent names in the list of 410 outgoing calls include that of Kodikkunnil Suresh, Valsala Balakrishnan, Ernakulam Range IG, Kollam Asst Police Commissioner, Vasudeva Sharma and Vaikom SI. It also includes calls to the residence of T Balakrishnan, Additional Chief secretary, who is also the son-in-law of Pillai.Pillai who was jailed on February 18, 2011, a week after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year imprisonment, had spent only 69 days in the prison. The apex court had sentenced Pillai and two others to one year rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of `10,000 in its February 10 order, at the end of a 20-year-old protracted legal battle at the instance of CPM leader V S Achuthanandan. The 76-year-old Pillai received 75 days parole and was confined in hospital for 84 days on health grounds and was released as a `Kerala Piravi’ gift of the government in November last year, ahead of the term which should have otherwise ended only this month.
