The Telugu Desam is likely to unveil its economic policy at the next Mahanadu which will be held next year. The party expects to analyse the economic reforms and liberalisation polices in the country from 1991 and provide right guidance for future economic reforms to address issues of poverty and bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots.
After losing out in the 2004 elections the party has done some exercise on the economic situation in the state and came out at the time of the 2009 elections with the Cash Transfer Scheme (CTS) .
Party president N.Chandrababu Naidu appointed a committee headed by senior leader and former finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu to suggest steps for removal of poverty from society.
The committee favours effective implementation of the Cash Transfer Scheme which is being implemented in 30 countries with financial support from the World Bank.
Party leaders claim that the scheme is the brainchild of Naidu’s son, N.Lokesh.
The report focuses on three issues: poverty, reduction of disparity between the rich and the poor, and uniform distribution of government revenue.
The committee will submit the report to the party chief soon after which in-depth discussions on its recommendations will be held during the Mahanadu and thereafter.
Ramakrishnudu said his party was not against the ongoing welfare programmes of the government but felt that CTS would bring even more financial benefits to the poor.
