CHENNAI: Many areas in the city received heavy rains on Wednesday. “The rainfall pattern indicates that it was not caused by monsoon as evening showers are typical of summer rains in July, August and September. It could have advanced to June,” said Dr YEA Raj, Deputy Director General, Regional Meteorological Centre. This was only as a case of isolated rainfall— the case when less than 25 per cent of 250 observatories in TN record rainfall. Rainfall of 3.3mm was recorded in the city observatory and 2mm in the airport one.
