Tiruchirappalli: The CPI's main election plank for the April 13 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu would be to 'retrieve' democracy in the state and ensure safety of the lives and properties of people in the state, a top state party leader said on Thursday.
"There should be an impartial government in this state if democracy is to survive in Tamil Nadu. Only such a government which rules according to the law can pave the way for proper protection to the lives and properties of people," CPI leader D Pandian said.
The CPI, he said, wants to retrieve the state from the "monopolistic grip" of a single family, which, he alleged was ruining the state's exchequer.
Referring to the announcement of various freebies, he said the government was using public money to buy TV sets and distribute them free of cost.
On Chief Minister's M Karunanidhi slamming the Election Commission's pre-poll actions, Pandian recalled that the Chief Minister had even criticised the Comptroller and Auditor General on the 2G Spectrum scandal, involving former Telecom Minister A Raja.
CPI National Secretary D Raja, who was also present, said the UPA government has been rocked by issues like 2G spectrum scam. "The crisis could snowball and destabilise the government. Already the government's stability is lost," he said.
The leaders also released the CPI manifesto, vowing to fight for comprehensive water conservation/harvesting system to properly store excess water in the rainy season in Tamil Nadu and ensure the state does not suffer scarcity in summer.
The party suggested a state-level river grid system to check flood damage and prevent wastage. It said CPI would strive for "Quality Education and health care" at affordable cost.
It said the party would ensure formation of a corruption free good government and ensure peace and harmony prevailed in the state.
