The indigenous Muslim community of Assam on Tuesday declared their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While praising Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, one of the leaders of the Sadou Asom Gariya Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad stated, “Dr. Sarma is the only Chief Minister of Assam who thought for the indigenous Muslims of Assam. Since independence we have seen the political parties are busy with immigrant Muslims. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is the only Chief Minister of Assam who seriously thought for us.”
“We thank Assam CM Sarma and BJP led Government for for recognising us (the five indigenous Muslim communities i.e Syed, Goriya, Moriya, Desi, and Julha) as indigenous group of Assam,” he added.
The indigenous Muslim forum on Tuesday conducted a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club.
While talking to the media, another leader from the forum stated, “We the indigenous Muslims of Assam declare and extend full support to Himanta Biswa Sarma. We appeal indigenous Muslims of Assam to support BJP. There are more than 40 lakh indigenous Muslims living in Assam.”
He further said that the indigenous Muslims should vote for indigenous candidates. Without mentioning name of Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi he said, “Particularly we appeal all indigenous Muslims living in Jorhat LS constituency to cast their votes for the BJP candidate Tapan Gogoi. Tapan Gogoi is a true Ahom, who lives among the Ahoms of Assam”.
The leaders of the forum also praised Assam CM Sarma for announcing socio-economic surveys of the indigenous Muslim communities of Assam.
While thanking Assam CM for his efforts in terms of the development of the indigenous Muslims, one of the leaders at the press conference said, “As the state government has extended every help for the all-round developments of the indigenous Muslims I hope by 2026 in next Assembly Elections at least five seats will be taken by indigenous Muslims”.
