After the Left parties, Trinamool Congress may also skip the inaugural ceremony of Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on January 22. West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to give the ‘Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav’ for Lord Ram a miss, and may also not send any representative to the ceremony, according to sources.
“The exact reason for her decision is still not clear. If she has received an invitation is also not clear, but she might skip the event. According to her, the event will be a showcase of politics in religion, and that’s why she might skip it,” sources said.
They said Banerjee is wary of being associated with BJP’s political narrative, with the saffron party looking to leverage the event as a springboard for its 2024 Lok Sabha campaign.
While the TMC is yet to officially announce its decision, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India have made it clear that they will not attend the event, stating that “BJP and RSS have converted a religious ceremony into a state-sponsored event directly involving the Prime Minister.”
These developments came against the backdrop of the Ram Temple trust extending invitations to all chief ministers and leading opposition figures for the ceremony.
The inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is scheduled to take place on January 22, 2024. The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and many other prominent people from all walks of life.
