Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said ‘nari shakti’ (women empowerment) is India’s “biggest guarantee” as it plays an important part in “Viksit Bharat” (developed India). He said his government at the Centre is working hard to make women’s lives easier, and that the BJP had ensured the passage of the women’s reservation legislation.
The prime minister, who was addressing a mass gathering of women at the BJP’s Mahila Conference in Kerala’s Thrissur, lashed out at the Congress and Left parties for allegedly delaying the Women’s Reservation Bill. He said the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has now become law, emphasising that he has fulfilled his commitment to the cause of women empowerment.
“Regrettably, after independence, the Leftist Congress government undermined the strength of our women,” Prime Minister Modi alleged.
He added: “The Congress and other parties delayed the reservation bill in the Lok Sabha. However, the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has now become law. Modi has fulfilled his commitment.”
The PM stressed that the progress of the poor, women, youth and farmers will ensure national growth, saying there was a buzz around “Modi’s guarantee”, apparently referring to the central government’s development initiatives. He said he guaranteed freedom from triple talaq for Muslim women and fulfilled it honestly.
Modi said he is grateful that stree shakti has gathered in such large numbers to bless him. “In the last 10 years, we took a lot of initiatives to make women’s lives easier. We gave 10 crore Ujjwala gas connections, this benefit was received because of Modi’s guarantee. We gave water through pipe to sisters of 11 crore families, how did this happen, all because of Modi’s guarantee…” he said.
Claiming that the Left and Congress were one and the same, PM Modi said the people of Kerala now know the truth about the “INDI alliance” (referring to the opposition bloc, INDIA). “Now, the BJP will win against the INDI alliance here in Kerala,” he said.
‘INDI alliance keeps hurting our faith’
Referring to gold smuggling cases in the state, Modi further alleged that the “INDI alliance” was looting Kerala. He accused the state government of refusing central aid. “Today, in the country, big roads are being made, modern airports are being made but the government of INDI alliance doesn’t let any work happen here because they oppose Modi. INDI alliance want full freedom in Kerala for looting. Here, the play that is happening due to the gold smuggling, is not hidden from anyone. They don’t want anybody to question them regarding the funds that are being received from the central government for poor people and infrastructure so they try to hinder the schemes by the central government,” he said.
Modi also said the opposition only knows how to insult “our aastha” (faith). “INDI alliance only knows one thing, INDI alliance keeps hurting our faith, they made our temples and festivals mediums for loot. The kind of politics that is being played with ‘Thrissur Pooram’ is unfortunate. The kind of mismanagement that has come to light in Sabarimala, devotees are facing a lot of inconvenience. This is the proof of disability of the state government here,” he added.
Before the conference, Modi received an enthusiastic welcome as he held a roadshow. At the conference, he shared the stage with Indian Olympics Association president PT Usha, actor Shobana, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi among others.
